If You're Canadian...

Now before I say anything, I would like to say that for those of you who "don't skate" then I am sorry, please don't take it personally, I have nothing against you, I'm just against the fact that you can't skate.

So now that we FINALLY have SNOW and FINALLY have low enough temperatures that ICE will FREEZE, we can finally go SKATING!!! I have been skating this year quite a few times already (and that doesn't include my hockey games). There is something that I don't understand though and it's that there are people (who live in Canada) who DON'T SKATE!!!!!!!!!!! This is a CRIME people!!! Everyone who lives in Canada should be able to skate, i'm not saying that you have to love it (like I do) but you should know HOW at least. One of the lines that I get is, "well, I don't skate." What do you mean you "DON'T SKATE" ? Are you saying that you never learned how to skate and year after year of winters you just "don't skate"? I feel bad for you then, because you have never experienced the joy of skating! You have never glided gracefully across ice, skated until your legs are so tired they hurt, felt the spray of snow as you stop. We live in Canada, our national sport is HOCKEY, not every country gets ice. If you can't skate, then you shouldn't call yourself Canadian.

Another thing I don't understand is how so many people can't stand cold temperatures. We live in the beautiful country of CANADA and in Canada we have warm summers and COLD WINTERS!...this is not a bad thing, but simply part of our climate. So I ask you, why is it that every winter there are people who are like, "brrr, I can't believe how cold it is!" or people who, in the fall when it hasn't snowed yet, are like, "well ya can't complain, at least there's no snow on the ground!" It happens EVERY year people! and yes, because of global warming the snow and cold temperatures come later and later, but when they come, it shouldn't be a SURPRISE to you! I mean, maybe it's because I was born, and lived for 7 years, in Edmonton Alberta, but I love winter, I love cold weather and having to get bundled up to go outside! and I think that if you live in Canada you should too, maybe not to the extent that I do but still. If you can't stand the cold winters, you shouldn't call yourself Canadian!

Rain in December?!

So I'd like to take this time to ask just one simple question: WHERE IS THE SNOW??? It is December already and I think it's time that we see some snow on the ground. We've sure had enough rain this fall. Why it's surprising we all haven't drowned! I mean I love winter, I love snow, I love ice, I love tubing, I love skating....and how can I do those things and enjoy winter when there is no snow! and when it is still warm outside and raining!!! It's craziness I tell you! These are the effects of global warming for ya! *Sigh* It's such a shame that gone are the days when there was tons of snow and the months of winter were freezing cold! And I ask you, what will the world be like years down the road when the ozone layer is even more depleted?! Will winters become just a thing of the past, something future generations will hear about in history class!!!

The Heirarchy of High School

I feel that I must take this time to rant about an issue that had been consuming me for the past week. So at my school, we have this place called "The Bear Pit". It's a sunken area, in the main part of the school. It doesn't sound like much, but in the past it has been a defining part of the school. It's for the students to hang out at lunch and between classes and for the most part (except when they come in to talk to us) the teachers stay out of it. The only rule with The Bear Pit though, is that it is only for senior students (grade 11 & 12). And in past years seniors have been very strict about not letting junior students even close to it, they've always had to be "behind the blue line" (there is a blue line that surrounds The Bear Pit) and if you crossed it, you were in trouble and if you ever THOUGHT about stepping into The Bear Pit, you were OUT OF YOUR MIND! because you just didn't do that! It would have been suicide to step foot in The Bear Pit if you were a grade nine or ten. However, this year it has been very different. You see, my grade doesn't really care and so this year there have been GRADE NINES IN THE BEAR PIT!!!!! And NO ONE KICKS THEM OUT!!! I just can't believe it and certainly can't get over it!! So this has been a HUGE frustration to me in the last week or so and I think, in the near future, something drastic is gunna have to happen because I'm not sure I can take too much more of this! You see the whole dynamics of my school have changed since I was in grade nine. Back then there was a heirarchy system with seniors at the top and juniors at the bottom. There was absolutely NO going in or through The Bear Pit. Seniors had authority over juniors and juniors respected that. And this is the way it should be. Also in our gym, when we have assemblies, the seniors used to sit at the top of the bleachers and if there was room the juniors could sit at the bottom but if not, they had to sit on the floor. This year though, the grade nine's are sitting where ever they want....at the last assembly, they were sitting at the top of the bleachers! There was barely room for us, the seniors! *Sigh* My school has changed so much in the four years I've been there, and it's all been for the worst. There is no heirarchy anymore, and that is sad. The junior students have no idea, they think they own the school. And they will continue to do so if someone doesn't take action. And that someone just might have to be me!

"Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

At first my philosophy class was pretty kool and I liked having discussions about things and hearing what others thought about stuff, but now it's starting to annoy me. You see, there are kids in my class who think they are so philosophical and so they try to prove this by questioning EVERYTHING! I mean, yes I am in a philosophy class and this is what we're supposed to do but come on! Questioning everything to the point of, "is this desk really here?" or, "is this desk real or is it just an idea in my head that I have created?" Well of course the desk is real! It was made by a person in a factory! And it's not just an idea, its composed of atoms! So basically this is what I go through everyday in philosophy class. And when one of these kids poses such a question, the teacher thinks it's "so interesting!" and so on and on we go discussing whether even we as humans are really here on earth, or whether we are just the ideas of some creatures, living on another planet in some sort of ultrauniverse! And I kid you not, these are real conversations that my class has had. All I want to do, during one of these discussions, is say to all of them the words of Sigmund Freud... "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

My Beloved Shoes!

Okay, so the other day I was at the mall with Melissa and we were just walking around. I was looking for boots that I could wear this winter, because I had realized that I had nothing to wear once it starts snowing. So we walk by this one shoe store (Aldo) and we decide to go in and have a look. Well we start looking around when low and behold, my gaze falls upon probably the most breath-taking shoes I have ever seen in my life! So I'm like freaking out and Melissa's thinking that I have actually gone insane! But I just can't get over these shoes, which makes Melissa laugh because I don't usually like shoes. You see, I'm not one of those people who have an obsession with shoes, though you might think so from my little story. It's actually the contrary though, I've never really cared at all for shoes. I don't go shoe shopping like some other girls I know, I've actually only stepped foot, into the shoe stores in the Cat. Mall, a handful of time (if that) in the 11 years that I've lived in Kingston! So that is why (for those of you who know me) this story is quite shocking, because it is completely out of character for me. But finishing up my story, I look at the price tag and these lovely shoes are $40! I know for some people that is not a lot of money to spend on shoes, but I am quite cheap. I decide to think about these shoes. So I put them back on the shelf and walk out of the store. After a day or so of "thinking about them", I'd decided I was going back to Aldo to buy those shoes. Because I figure...I don't care! ( <-that one was for you Melissa! )

Hello Everyone...

Welcome to my blog! This is where I will be sharing my thoughts with you...hopefully you enjoy them. Some will be quite silly and random, others quite serious, it all depends on what my mood is that day, and what I have recently experienced. Feel free to comment because it would be fun to know what you're thinking. Other than that, I really have nothing else to say about this blog, so that is all for now!
